The board and management of YAD deeply regret to announce the death of one of its beautiful heroines, Mariama Sawanneh, aged 24. Until her untimely death, she was Chairlady of the Gbo-kakajama Youth in Action for Progress (GYAP) – one of the youth groups created and mentored by YAD in Kenema municipality with funds from the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).
During her short youth-hood, Sawanneh served as a shining model of gender equality in Kenema municipality, as she proved to be one of the city’s best female athletes who never allowed any male counterpart to defeat her in the pitch based on her female identity. Sawanneh was an indomitable champion of both football and volleyball, a talent that rendered her famous in every nook and cranny of the eastern capital. She is going to be deeply missed by everyone.
On behalf of the board and management of YAD, I wish to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt sympathy and solidarity to Sawanneh’s family and members of the Gbo-kakajama Youths in Action for Progress.
May her soul rest in perfect peace
